There are four key terms in Cybersecurity which I think need to be concise and clear concepts to understand the basic terminology of Cybersecurity.
They are:
- Vulnerability
- Threat
- Exploit
- Risk
1. Vulnerability:
A vulnerability means is a flaw, loophole, oversight, or error that can be exploited to violate system security policy.
Example: A software or an application that has code vulnerable to a buffer or flow exploit.
2. Threat:
A threat is an event, natural or man-made, able to cause negative impact to an organization.
3. Exploit:
An exploit is a defined way to breach the security of an IT system through a vulnerability.
4. Risk:
It is a situation involving exposure to danger.
And understanding the key terms will help to deep dive into Cybersecurity more.
